Description:

A list of architectural lighting design software.

Row # Title Image Description
1 DIALux DIALux DIALux is a free light planning software for both daylight and artificial light scenarios.
2 OptiWin 3D pro A free lighting design program with a 3D editor, LENI indicator calculations, and the ability to import large 3D models.
3 Vectorworks Spotlight CAD software for entertainment lighting design, with 2D and 3D capabilities.
4 TracePro A software tool for modelling the propagation of light in imaging and non-imaging opto-mechanical systems. The models are created by importing from a design or CAD program, or through directly creating the solid geometry in TracePro. The source rays propagate through the model with portions of the flux of each ray allocated for absorption, specular reflection and transmission, fluorescence, and scattering. Designers can analyse from the model:
- Light distributions in illumination and imaging systems
- Lumens exiting, absorbing, and incident at the component and system levels
- Candela distributions
- Optical efficiency, luminance, and radiance metrics
- Photorealistic rendering
- Fluorescence effects of phosphors
5 LiteStar 4D A program for interior and exterior lighting design, with the following modules:
- Litecalc - A module with features including lighting design and calculation, rendering, and ray-tracing modules; 2D and 3D DXF files interface for the interiors and the exteriors.
- Liswin - An operative electronic catalogue for luminaires and lamps
- Lisman - A specifications management module
- Photowin - A photometry management module
- Lisdat - A catalogue data management module.
6 MA Lighting software Various free lighting design software from MA Lighting.
7 Visual A lighting design software / tool suite.
8 Wysiwyg A lighting design software with the following three versions: Perform, Design, and Report.
9 AGi32 A lighting design software for providing numeric and rendered solutions for almost any lighting application, interior or exterior, including roadway and day-lighting.
10 Photometric Toolbox An evaluation program for manufacturers' luminaire photometry that allows the user to create, edit, repair, report, and compare luminaire data.
11 Relux A free lighting calculation program for Windows, for indoor, outdoor and tunnel. It has AutoCAD import functionality and an online database of luminaries.
12 OptisWorks A toolset for optimising light in any system directly in SolidWorks.
13 SPEOS SPEOS is the core technology behind OPTIS' family of light simulation software, and is available as a stand-alone software package for users without a CAD platform.
14 Radiance Radiance
Radiance is a free open-source suite of programs for the analysis and visualisation of lighting in design. Its input files specify the scene geometry, materials, luminaires, time, date, and sky conditions (for daylight calculations). Calculated values include spectral radiance (i.e. luminance and colour), irradiance (illuminance and colour), and glare indices. Simulation results may be displayed as colour images, numerical values, and contour plots.
15 Rayfront A free lighting design toolkit that provides a GUI (graphical user interface) to the lighting simulation software Radiance. Rayfront can be operated as an extension of AutoCAD or IntelliCAD, together with the 3Dsolar building modeller, or as a stand-alone program.
16 LX Series software A variety of free software tools for lighting design.
17 Microlux A variety of software by LuxArt for lighting designers.
18 Lighting Reality A lighting design application that enables lighting designers to produce standards-compliant street and outdoor area lighting plans in real-time. It comes ready-loaded with photometric data from a wide variety of international lighting manufacturers, and supports all the key road lighting standards, including IES RP08 for North American users and EN 13201 for European users.
19 Capture Capture
Capture is a lighting design and visualisation software, for Windows and Mac OS X. It allows the user to work with lighting, video, moving scenery, lasers and water jets. It supports a wide range of ethernet DMX protocols such as Art-Net and sACN but also connects directly to High End and MA Lighting consoles as well as consoles that support CITP from brands such as ADB, Avolites, ChamSys, and Strand Lighting. Other features include:
- Plays back local video files
-Streams video directly from CITP/MSEX compatible and Green Hippo media servers
- Receives laser projector content from LaserAnimation Sollinger and Pangolin systems and live positioning information directly from Kinesys K2 systems
20 Lumicept Lumicept is a hybrid light simulation software that simulates the behaviour of light, allowing the user to know how light propagates and is distributed in space.
21 LD Assistant Lighting design software used in event planning/visualisation, scenic design, stage lighting, pre-visualisation, 2D and 3D design, 3D visualisation, and lighting for film, TV and exhibits.
22 LightCalc LightCalc
Lighting design software with features that include the following:
- It can be used to determine the overall reflectance in a room.
- It can find the proper footcandle level for general, task, and art lighting.
- The footcandle level can be adjusted for dark to light rooms and client age.
- It helps the user determines the proper spacing needed.
- It uses both inverse square law and lumen methods.
- A grid layout is suggested for general lighting.
23 ElumTools A fully integrated lighting calculation add-in for Autodesk Revit, that is designed to calculate point-by-point illuminance on any workplane or surface utilizing lighting fixture families and surface geometry already present in the Revit model.
24 CalcuLuX A tool which can help lighting designers select and evaluate lighting systems. It has two applications:
- Area, which performs lighting calculations on rectangular calculation areas in any plane.
- Road, which allows the user to calculate and compare different lighting designs (schemes) at the same time.
25 Maclux Pro A now defunct lighting design software for Mac OS X.
26 Light-in-Night Road A Russian language lighting design program.
27 Ulysse Lighting design software by Schreder.

  • Each row in the following text fields represents one entry in the list.
  • Each list entry must have a title and/or URL. Entry descriptions and images are entirely optional.
  • The submitted link URLs would be automatically standardised. This will mean that it doesn't matter whether or not you include the https:// (or https//) at the beginning or a / at the end.
  • Don't worry if a title, URL or description takes more than one line in the input form.  Regardless of whether the input was entered manually or copied and pasted, this website can distinguish between whether the input going to a new line was due to its long length or from the use of the enter key.
  • New list entries are added to the bottom of the list. Chronologically ordered lists should be ordered from the earliest to the latest.
  • If an image is too wide or tall, it would be automatically scaled.
